Hillman's machine received its UK patent on October 5th, 1875. The design brought together many successful elements from other engineers. Taylor's elliptical shuttle motion and rocking arm combination were employed, these being linked to a very competent gear drive arrangement.
By the time the concept went into production, machines of this genre were passing their heyday, so commercial success was sadly limited.
