This
elegant domestic lockstitch design was patented in the UK in 1861.
The presser foot "g" is employed for fabric feed, this
being motioned by the needle-driving cam "F". An in-line
shuttle transport is achieved via crank-plate "a" driven
by shaft "E" in gear with top shaft "D". A
slightly elaborate, but effective, adjustable top thread tension
device, powered by coiled spring "n" completes the package.
