S. W. Wardwell

American Wardwell initiated three patents during the 1870s in the UK. The first two were dated 1871 and 1872. His final specification, the one illustrated, was from 1876. All three papers focussed on his rather novel domestic treadle combination. Being mounted on a circular plinth, the machine head could be rotated for use at any angle. An entire standard cotton bobbin was used for the underthread when forming a lockstitch.
